Jerk Sweet Potato and Black Bean Burgers

These flavorful jerk sweet potato and black bean burgers are a delicious and satisfying plant-based option for your barbecue. Packed with Caribbean-inspired spices and paired with jerk mayo, they are sure to be a hit at your next cookout.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes, grated
  • 1 can 15 oz black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons jerk seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado slices, and jerk mayo

Instructions:

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher

Add grated sweet potatoes, breadcrumbs, red onion, garlic, jerk seasoning, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to the mashed black beans

Mix well until everything is combined

Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape them into burger patties

Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side or until they are golden and have grill marks

Toast the burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until they are lightly browned

Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on the toasted buns and adding your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, avocado slices, and a dollop of jerk mayo

Serve the Jerk Sweet Potato and Black Bean Burgers hot from the grill and enjoy
